You can see in the video that I hold my left-knee-right in for the duration of the song, lowering my E's on strings 4 and 8; thus giving me a C6th tuning. I am playing my E9th pedal steel as if it were a lap steel tuned to C6th. The E9th pedal steel guitar is perfect for playing Hawaiian music. This song is titled, Adventures In Paradise." I use some finger harmonics and some palm harmonics. Generally, I think palm harmonics sound better. These are called "artificial harmonics." Natural harmonics are performed on open strings (no bar on the strings) at frets 5,7,12,19 and 24. Any harmonics produced with the bar on the strings are "artificial harmonics." Natural harmonics are produced more easily by picking the strings slightly closer to the bridge. Of course, with artificial harmonics you cannot do this because you MUST pick the strings 5,7 or 12 frets higher to obtain a harmonic (chime). I'm playing through a VOX DA-5 battery-powered amp (using 6 C-sized batteries). It has a 5 or 6 inch speaker, I can't remember. It's 10 watts (8 ohms). I'm using a SONY boombox with bass-boost for my rhyhm tracks. My camcorder is a JVC HD with an external mic. I'm using my BOSS DD-3 with the VOX and a Goodrich volume pedal with the new improved high-life pot. The guitar is at least a 40-year old ShoBud Pro I with a stock factory open-coil pickup.
